4.0 out of 5 stars A REVIEW! Worth getting. Unique set of minifigs,
June 10, 2010 This review is from: Lego 8683 Minifigures Series 1 Complete Set of 16 (Toy) Instead of ranting about the rarity of these figures, I used my time productively and hit the local Lego store where they had them in stock. Limited to 5, I resort to placing another 5 instore at S@H. Luckily, I accumulated 10 unique ones and filled out the rest with purchases here. Spent a little more than I the $2.50 per piece, but saved in time instead of hunting and pecking at the packages while there.
These are great unique minifigures that will add to my City collection and give it quite a diverse look now. Considering to getting more Cheerleaders to make a squad so can start a parade with all my City emergency vehicles…all the while awaiting for them a crash site with dummies around the corner
The build is a little cheaper than usual…a common observation of China made figs; but it’s not too noticeable.
Can’t wait until Series 2!

July 10, 2010 This review is from: Lego 8683 Minifigures Series 1 Complete Set of 16 (Toy) I bought two collections. One for me, as collector, and the other one for my kids to play with.
1) How much fun is this toy?
I have been releasing the packages to my kids little by little. Every time they open a package is a great moment of excitement.
My kids have a 8 by 4 ft table to leave their LEGO constructions and, besides building, they enjoy tremendously pretend play. They already have lots of minifigurines, all with a personality and each with one of my kids to manage them. I get surprised how they can keep track of the story behind each figurine because they keep playing the day after as if it was a tv show.
This new figurines have introduced a fresh environment to their minifigurine world. Previous figurines came from sets, LEGO community workers and lots of pieces bought at pick a brick at LEGO shop. Kids have mixed all the figurine parts but these new figurines offer new accessories, colors and shapes never seen before. No doubt we are looking forward to buy Series 2 also.
2) How would you rate this toy’s educational value?
The educational value it is not anything implicit of the toy, it depends on what the kids, mom and educators manage to do with them. To my kids, this toys have been the best pretend play toy they have ever had. However, other customers who will send the figurines into a display will get none educational value at all.
3) How durable is this toy?
Expect exactly the same quality of any LEGO mini figurine. They might last forever but, of course, young kids might get small parts mixed into the large bucket.
4) How do you rate this toy overall?
Excellent. My only complain of this Series is that there are only two females (Nurse and Cheerleader) but that complain is only mine, I have two girls and one boy and they are all happy with the figurines they have.
I have read all the reviews posted so far and it is sad how people complaining about problems they have had to complete the collection, piece by piece, using different stores as resources have affected the ratings of THIS item.

June 4, 2010 This review is from: Lego 8683 Minifigures Series 1 Complete Set of 16 (Toy) I am so mad about Lego’s handling of the Series 1 Minifigures. I have been so excited about getting these for my son and he has been waiting to get these for months. Checking them out on the website and playing the games and printing the posters for his room. Is Lego trying to torture children by making them think they can get something and hyping it up and then not letting them even buy a full set for their household on the website!? We went to the Lego store twice (it is 30 minutes from home) to buy these because the store employee said they were in stock and when we got there none were left. My son cried both times! I went to 3 different Toys R US on 3 different occasions when they got their shipments and they sold out of them all because some fool at these stores thinks it is OK to sell them by the case and sold them all to a few people! Now when they finally become available to us on the website we can only order 5 per household!? WTF Lego! WHY doesn’t lego sell them by the set or make them available in huge quantities? I spoke with a small local toy store owner today and she said Lego treats the small toy shops like garbage and sends them stuff much too late or not at all. It is these small toy stores that should get things like these minifigures first as they won’t sell them by the case to adult collectors that are trying to sell them on eBay for a profit. Do not pay more than 2 bucks for these each! Amazon sellers and eBay sellers are trying to make a HUGE profit! Lego started out as a small family company and has turned into a giant corporation that seems to not care about what they were initially made for. Lego does not mean “play well” anymore it seems.
