(Comparison to Voyager Pro+), December 11, 2010
By EuroDriver (SAN DIEGO, CA United States) See all my reviews This review is from: BlueAnt Q2 Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory) Pros:
+Excellent Speaker/Mic/Noise Cancelling Sound Quality
+Voice Controls!
+Caller ID Announce! I bought the BlueAnt Q2 to use with a Motorola Droid X, and hoping to also use it on my PC for Skpye calls. Though there are other devices that offer many similarities and strong competition to the Q2, My review makes a direct comparison to the Plantronics Voyager Pro+, because 1) it is in the same price range, 2) alike in features, and 3) it is the only comparable one that I really bought. Clearly, my review comparison is usually caused by #3, above, if you’re inquisitive as to how it compares to other models, like the Aliph Jawbone Icon, I can not assist you there though there are lots of reviews and comparisons on the web.

After having bought the Plantronics Volyager Pro+ and using it for about a week (which replaced my 2 yr old BA V1). I much favor the Q2, though the Pro+ has a couple features that I really wish the Q2 also had. I was a little put off with the nearly four hours it took to charge the Q2 (Pro+ charges in 60 90 mins) but after it was completely charged, I was now blown away by the strength and clearness of the speaker quality. Pairing was a snap and after pairing, it now uploaded my phone contacts. My all time favorite feature is the Caller ID announce by contact name, which removes the have to pick up the phone to know who’s calling. This feature, backed up by the capability to answer or ignore the call by spoken command, really puts this headset at the top of the “hands free” group. Voyager Pro+ only beeps, and doesn’t offer voice controls. If driving or walking in crowds, nobody complained they can not hear me. At 1st, the Q2 could make my ear sore after about an hour or 2, forcing me to take it off some number of times throughout the day. But, after experimenting with the plentiful range of earpieces included, I found one that fit me quite well and made it more comfy.

The Q2 can hold up to 2,000 contacts per connected device (can connect with two devices each phone number counts as a contact (i.E., contact name “John” has home, work and mobile number = three contacts for Q2)). Next favorite is integration with Vligno application (android market) which enables text messages & emails to be read to you, speech to text sending of sms, emails, directions to Google Navigation, and other cool features like listen to news, weather, movie times, posting social media, google searches, and on and on. It is free and greatly customizable, as well as different settings for standard use and InCar. The Pro+ offers a alike service called Vocalyst, which requires you call into the service. It’s more restricted, cumbersome to use, and tiered services subscriptions of 24.99/59.99 per year, or monthly at a higher cost.

The Q2 also works well with my phone’s Voice Commands Feature, and I can speak directions to the Google Navigation through the headset. I couldn’t accomplish either with the Pro+ (I contacted Plantronics re: spoken directions to Google Nav, and they confirmed it couldn’t be done). Big plus for the Q2.

The Pro+ had an edge on the Q2 in the following areas:
The On/Off and volume buttons and small and placed closely together. The Pro+ has bigger buttons that are placed well separately from each other for easy access by feel. The Q2 has enough room to add a little spacing. I am not sure why they felt compelled to condense things to much. Particularly the on/off switch, that besides being tiny and flush with the frame, is placed behind the charging jack. They may have simply intended it with a little tab or bump for easier access.
No Mute feature. Pro+ has Mute Function
A2DP Streaming only works on the 1st device the Q2 connects to. This was disappointing since when I want to do a Skype call, I have to disconnect the Q2 from my Droid X, then connect to PC, and repeat the procedure when I am done on the PC to enable A2DP services on the phone. As well, the Q2 frequently doesn’t automatically reconnect once the connection is lost. The Pro+ automatically reconnects, plus though it can handle streaming to two devices (one at a time, of course), and automatically does so when it receives a signal. Consequently, I ended up having to keep the Pro+ for use on the PC and dedicate the Q2 only to the cell phone. This was disappointing, considering the cost of each of these devices.
As mentioned before, the Q2 charges gradually in comparison to the Pro+. As well, it gives about an hour’s less talk time.
The Pro+ has a long mic boom that spins, keeps the mic much closer to the mouth. Another favorite of mine with the Pro+ is the unibody design that wraps around the ear. I am not fond of the thin, removable earloop the Q2 has. The Pro+ is indeed more comfy to wear. Along those lines, the Q2 has a knack for attracting lint, which contrasts loudly with its black plastic screen. The velvet bag is rather useless as a protector. For the Pro+, Plantronics offers a tough leather holster with integrated clip (sold individually for about $10, but well worth it. Too bad the Q2 did not fit in it).
The included USB cable lets you to either plug it in to the included A/C adapter, or directly into a USB port. But, as mentioned earlier, it is short practically useless. I am using the charger cord from the Voyager.
A last drawback is the fact that once the Q2 is paired with two devices, an try to re pair will need you to reset the device ad re pair all over again. The Pro+ lets you to re pair without needing a reset.

Both devices are nice, perform well, and are likewise priced. I pointed out the tradeoffs, but the but Plantronics’ heavy subscription costs for their Vocalyst service, lack of caller ID announce and voice controls really pulled it far below the Q2, particularly considering it is not as developed or as easy to use as the free Vlingo app that supplements the Q2. In general, I’m much happier with the Q2 for use with my mobile phone, usually thanks to the Caller ID feature, voice controls and Vlingo. It could have been ideal for use with my PC also, but the have to disconnect/reconnect every time I change from one device to the other is exremely unworkable. As mentioned, the Voyager Pro+ is many more comfy for wearing long periods at a time. Such lacking are minor, and I look forward to seeing them added in future models of this awesome little device. Given they’re practically the same price, the Q2 offers much better value for the money to me.

Since the Q2 is advertised as muliconnect, but it can not really multiconnect via A2DP, I can not give it five stars. I think it rightfully deserved 4.5 stars but since that is not possible, I give it four stars.

23 of 25 people found the following review helpful:
4.0 out of five stars be sure your phone has Android 2.2 before you buy this headset., November 7, 2010
By Charice See all my reviews () This review is from: BlueAnt Q2 Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory) I bought my 1st BlueAnt two years ago and have been impressed with their sound quality. When they presented the Q2 I decided to upgrade so that I could get all the new features. The sound quality remains good, but unfortunately I can not use most of the features I bought it for. The caller announce uses strange pronunciations so it is hard to understand on occasion. My phone, though only some months old, doesn’t have the new variant of Android, which is variant 2.2 (beware of the Android variant when you buy an Android phone). The text to speech feature on the Q2 only works on Android 2.2. The voice dialing also doesn’t work with my phone (Motorola CLIQ). I may have bought a less costly BlueAnt headset to get the sound quality without the features. I certainly recommend this brand but if it is features you want, then I strongly urge purchasers to be sure it is matched with your phone.

Twelve of 13 people found the following review helpful:
4.0 out of five stars Good device, comfy, good quality sound, November 6, 2010
By B. Wilson “BEW” (Tennessee) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: BlueAnt Q2 Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory) I am using this with an iPhone. It pairs well, the quality of the sound on both ends is good, and the playback of podcasts is quite good. It took a while, but I found the right earpiece for a good fit.

Annoyances:
1) It really needs a mute button on the device or something like double tapping the action button mutes.

2) My phone has voice control, which is better than the voice stuff on this device. All other things being equal, I’d rather that the action button simply invoked the voice commands on my phone. The lag time and the announcement of “activating voice commands on your connected phone” are really annoying.

Shipping to:
<div Sleek and classic design with a 2.4 inch touchscreen display and easy text entry
From alpha numeric keypad.

Nokia C301 Unlocked Touch and Type GSM PhoneU.S. Version with Warranty Warm Gray Reviews and Price:

Seven of seven people found the following review helpful:
4.0 out of five stars An Interesting Proposition, January 21, 2011
By theomega See all my reviews () This review is from: Nokia C3 01 Unlocked Touch and Type GSM Phone U.S. Variant with Warranty (Warm Gray) (Wireless Phone Accessory) As a Nokia fan, I will be the 1st to admit that my favorite Finnish phone maker has not been a smartphone leader for many time. They have been hemorrhaging marketshare for many reasons and the diehard aficionados are hoping for the best from Meego and updates to S3. This, but, is not a review about about smartphones or top end OSs. This review is about the C3 01, a device that Nokia hopes will set a regular from which to keep feature phones in rate with their smartphone brethren.

The meat and potatoes of Nokia’s business is feature phones and it shows. The C3 01 feels like a quality device right out the box. The hardware seams are small. The mainly metal construction, rounded edges and weight lend this candybar a hard feel in hand. The hardware fonts are legible and just bright enough. One thing be aware of is that the warm grey unit has its keypad backlit in white while the silver unit has blue backlit keys. The volume and camera keys on the right work just good but the lock key will take many practice since it sits flush with the side.

The touchscreen is clearly one of the big attractions of this device and it works decently well for this application. Nokia disappointingly went with a cheaper resistive unit. Though it is one of the most sensitive resistive displays I have used, the OS still needs confident presses and drags to function properly. Not having a capacitive screen dashes any hopes of multitouch gestures through software updates but on a 2.4″ display, multitouch does not make much sense.

People called the touchscreen element of the C3 01, and by affiliation the X3 02, a gimmick which simply is not true. The customizable homescreen and drop down app menu enable users to put nearly all crucial functionality(opening apps, dialing contacts, setting alarms, etc.) inside two taps of unlocking the device which is not possible on a non touchscreen handset short of having dedicated hardware keys. That is not to say that this new touch enabled variant six of the venerable S40 operating system is perfect. There are some quirks which I hope get addressed in forthcoming software updates. It can not set more than one alarm at any given time. Though you may be able to set contacts to the homescreen, tapping them will bring you to the contact details from which you may be able to dial out. There is not an choice for 1 touch dialing from the homescreen, among other things.

The C3 01 has Ovi Store access for apps and content but because this and the X3 02 are the 1st implementations of S40v6, the app selection is restricted. Last S40 variant apps were intended with a d pad in mind and will not function properly on the touchscreen. But, the SDK for S40v6 newly became available and since Nokia will be pushing the “touch and type” paradigm for the foreseeable future, users should see more content and apps in the coming months. S40v6 now lacks multitasking and app switching though you may be able to play music and do other things simultaneously. As well, Nokia’s Internet radio app for S40v6 now in beta will run in the background, proposing that more advanced functionality like push email may be possible. The integrated apps like the photo browser, music player, email client and so forth work well enough but sadly, there is nothing groundbreaking about any of them by function or interface. The stopwatch, countdown timer, and LED flashlight were really amazingly nice additions. The stock Nokia web browser is painful to use both in load times and in general usability. Luckily, they have included Opera Mini which really works smoothly on the 320×240 display. Opera will also help cut down on data use since it pulls data optimized pages through the Opera servers.

I think the C3 01 is a pretty good purchase. I picked up two of these to replace my parents’ maturing LG Shines(as well as to do this review) and they are happy with their C3 01s. If you just want to phone calls, this phone could work great but could be totally overpriced. If you are wanting to multitask, enjoy video content or a web heavy experience, this devive will not deliver the experience you are looking for. If, but, you are in between those two extremes, the C3 01 is a compelling mix of price, features, and build quality that is certainly worth considering.

Two of two I have generally been impressed by the devices they have produced in the past and the current line of devices. Since I like to be on the bleeding edge of tech, I just had to get a 8900.

Most of you know by now what the new feature sets are of blackberries that are out today. The bold, the storm, and now this one The JAVELIN.
I wont go into too much detail but I’ll give you my fast run down.

The Javelin is possibly the thinnest, lightest, small footprint blackberry that I have ever used. It sports a great look and the feel to the hands is awesome. It’s after all the curve II. Screen comparison to the bold is that this unit has a higher resolution then the bold but a smaller physical screen. The higher resolution certainly adds many clearness to the screen. But it should be duly noted that the BOLD’s screen is beautiful. Yes I own both.

The Javelin is a EDGE/Wi FI device. It doesn’t have 3G potential. Theoretically you only need 3G if you want to be on the phone and receive/send emails simultaneously when using your mobile connections.I personally have never needed that functionality. But, note that if you’re connected to WI FI you’re able to be on a telephone call and receive/send email etc over wi fi..works perfectly.

The Javelin has a new processor which makes the device FLY. Yes the processor is slower then the one in the Bold, but one can hardly tell the difference..I used both for weeks. And I can honestly say you won’t notice the speed difference.

I have a 8gb MicroSD card installed in the device and use the software available from blackberry to synchronize all of my DRM free music from iTunes to the Blackberry. A must purchase if you want to carry one device that does it all. Has great prices on micro sd cards…

Here are what I think about to be the best features on the Javelin:

1. AUTOFOCUS 3.2mp Camera it’s AWESOME. Picture taking, caused by concentrate, is a bit slower..however, the clearness and quality of the picture make it all useful.

2. FOOTPRINT Great looking device with a great size.

3. High Resolution screen Awesome clearness..

4. The functionality of a blackberry has generally been a pro..and this one makes it better with a faster processor and more zippy feel.

The three BAD things:
1. The speaker on this thing is so TINNY..that it hurts my ears with certain tones…There is NO bass what so ever. That’s to be projected in a device this small..so maybe many new tones have to be tested out.

2. Micro USB Why take something like mini usb and replace it with something new. Now I have to get all new chargers, travel chargers, etc.. Upsetting but bareable.

3. The holster in the BOX is simply a pleather pouch of kinds. No belt clip etc. You’ll have to purchase an aftermarket leather/plastic holster if you want to attach to your belt. Not a deal breaker. But should be mentioned.

I am posting many pictures for your review also.

Overall this is a great five Star Device.

48 of 55 people found the following review helpful:
3.0 out of five stars T Mobile 8900 Review Mediocre Voice Quality Mars Otherwise Good Performance, February 16, 2009
By Satcha (Chicago, IL USA) See all my reviews This review is from: BlackBerry Curve 8900 Javelin Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera, GPS Navigation, Stereo Bluetooth, and MicroSD Slot International variant with Warranty (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory) I have now had some days to check out the new T Mobile Blackberry 8900. I’ll be comparing my last Blackberry, a T Mobile 8800.

Good Points:

1. Nice screen; good resolution; and good readability. Good for looking at attached papers.

2. Nice industrial design and small form factor.

3. Wifi (but it looks much slower than the Iphone or an old T Mobile Dash I have around the house).

4. Pretty good camera. There’s significant shutter lag; but the photos are just. Note that I can not seem to be figure out how to turn off the annoying shutter sound. I tend to use a camera phone for reminders of a product or article that interested me. The shutter can be obliged legally in many locations; but I do not think it is obliged where I live.

5. Audible works a bit better. I’m an Audible fan. (I also download audio books from Net Library, but they require a protected WMA format, which the 8900 doesn’t support). I can downloads audio books straight to the device. There are glitches, like updating the My Library list, but it improved from generally “non functional” to “somewhat usable”.

6. UMA T Mobile’s voip choice, worked quite well. Voice quality was so so (probably device limited) but setup was simple and it looks to work at different wifi sites without use of minutes or special hardware. I’m excited to attempt this in Japan and on other international trips.

7. 3.5 mm headset jack, started with the original Curve. Quite good sound though my headphones.

Not So Good Points:

1. Mediocre voice quality. My 8800 had exceptional voice quality. It was better than my Cisco Voip phone at work. The voice quality of the interior speaker for the 8900 isn’t almost so good. I found myself continuously re positioning the phone vis a vis my ear to attempt and hear better. This is a big problem; and makes me think about returning it rather than suffering through a year of poor voice calls. I have been with T Mobile for seven years or so in the Chicago area (from right after Voicestream came to town). I find their service much better than AT&T and Verizon and rivaled only by Sprint (this may sound humorous, but it’s my experience). Nevertheless this is most likely the worst voice quality I have had on any of some number of Blackberry phones.

2. No 3G. May not mean so much for routine Blackberry functions, which are greatly compressed, but for web browsing or downloads, lack of 3G is a big minus.

3. Annoying change from mini usb to micro usb for device connections. I have some number of devices, like M3P players and another phone that use mini usb; now I have to have another cord just for the 8900 and purchase many extra chargers and cords for when I travel. I note that the media sync was much faster on the 8900 than my 8800. I do not know if this is because of better software, drivers or the micro usb (versus mini usb).

4. Annoying, audible phone dialing sound. In normal and other non silent profiles, there’s an annoying and audible fast dial sound that everyone around you may be able to hear. My convoluted work around, found online, is to use shake mode, , then have it ring. This is silly and annoying. It’s agent of the settings limitations for this phone that seriously detract from individual usability and customization.

5. The included case is a certain letdown. It’s too small, leaving the top 1/2 inch of the device uncovered. It’s too tight, making the phone tough to extract when answering a call, and there isn’t a belt clip.

6. Web browser still bad. Bookmarks are a ache, locked in to useless T Mobile sites, and browsing isn’t so good. I loaded Opera Mini but it does not seem to be integrated. This can be the side effect of using an Iphone; by comparison the 8900 browser, tough presented more than a year after the Iphone, is so poor.

7. Reception looks to be worse than the 8800. It’s hard to compare exactly, but it looks that reception at home and work is a notch worse than my 8800. Not as bad as an Iphone, though, on AT&T.

22 of 24 people found the following review helpful:
5.0 out of five stars My 8900, May 5, 2009
By Manuel Escobar “Latnair” (Phoenix, AZ) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) I bought my 8900 in February when it 1st came out and I’m so happy with it. Never before have I been so happy with a phone because it can do so much. I used to carry a palm and a cell.. no longer! The 8900 has everything I need: Internet, instant email, text messages, phone, games, camera, papers, etc, etc, it’s wonderful! happy and still excited about it.

<br
